Lymphoedema Management

The lymphatic system is part of the drainage system of the body, with filters or nodes located along the channels (lymphatics). When several lymph nodes are removed, commonly following a lymph node dissection, then there can be a backlog of fluid within the lymphatics.

Some areas will resolve spontaneously, however others, often around the groin and leg, will result in a prolonged or permanent backlog known as lymphoedema. This can be managed with massage and compression stockings and it is important to understand what is required. This instruction is routinely carried out by a lymphoedema nurse, which will be arranged by Mr Peach as required.
